The latest in skin techology - Dermapen is a revolutionary breakthrough!

What does the Dermapen do? This new technology stimulates and increases your body’s production of collagen in targeted areas. It will harness the body’s natural ability to heal and repair itself, providing healthy skin rejuvenation and plumping.

How does it work? First, a solution is applied to target the area. Then the small handheld device uses ultrafine micro-needles to create thousands of miniature holes in the surface of your skin. These micro-injuries promote an even absorption of topicals into the skin, stimulate the body’s own natural collagen production and use your body’s natural ability to heal and repair to create healthy, beautiful results.

How does Dermapen differ from Dermaroller? Rolling across the skin, the Dermaroller needles come out of the skin at an angle, leaving cone-shaped holes on the surface that cause more bleeding and epidermal damage. The roller is difficult to use on small or curved areas of the body and does not easily penetrate scar tissue.

The Dermapen’s vertical delivery allows the ultrafine needles to more easily pierce and gently release the skin, including areas with scar tissue, creating tiny vertical needle marks with less bleeding, finer healing points and smooth, more natural results.

Is it painful? Every patient is different, so the level of pain sensed varies based on your tolerance level and the area treated. To minimize the potential for discomfort, a numbing anesthetic cream will be applied 30 minutes before the procedure to make you more comfortable. The anesthetic will wear off after the procedure.

What do I need to know before a Dermapen treatment? Avoid sun exposure before your treatment. Do not use make up on treatment day. Discuss the medications you are taking or using, particularly Retin A or any auto-immune therapies.

What can I expect after the treatment? Your skin will look like it has a moderate to severe sunburn and may feel warm and tighter than usual, but this subsides after 1 to 2 hours and your skin will recover naturally within 24 hours. The aesthetician may apply hyaluronic acid, collagen, and/or elastin to your skin before or after your procedure. This will enhance the effectiveness of your treatment.

What precautions should I take after the treatment? For the next 24 hours, avoid exposure to the sun and do not use make-up, sun block, or work out. More specific instructions may be given to you based on your skin type, topical solution used and the condition being treated.

How many Dermapen treatments will I need? Results can be seen after just one session, but for optimal results, multiple sessions are recommended. Multiple sessions may be required for some skin problems, such as treating acne  scars or reducing the appearance of scar tissue.

How long does it take to see results? Results vary, but most patients see results right away and full skin rejuvenation in 6 to 8 weeks. The maturation stage of new healthy skin can be seen from day 28 to two years after treatment, as collagens mature and stiffen to bring new tissue to full tensile strength.
